Geegee's Whiskers is a custom bloodline breeding program specifically developed to produce dogs with quality health, personality, temperament, and disposition.

Dogs within our breeding program are carefully chosen from the top pedigrees across the country, and even internationally.

All of our prospective breeding program dogs have many health certifications and clearances completed prior to being bred.

Currently, our breeding program is made up of Goldren Retrievers.

Behaviour and socialisation

Training starts from Day 1
Puppies undergo neurological stimulation and stress control conditioning.Scent introduction is also started immediately.

Neurological stimulation and stress control conditioning (first 3 weeks)
Puppies are exposed to a series of different stimuli.They experience varied postures, physical restrictions, and physical stimulation.

Scent introduction
Helps form neural pathways.Utilizes one of the only senses puppies have at birth.

Formal training (starting week 3)
Puppies begin structured sessions using puppy mush food as treats.Teaches the theory of food motivation.Forms associations with certain body postures, especially “sit.”

Advantages of early training
Puppies learn skills at an age when many others are just beginning to develop them.By eight weeks, most puppies are just starting; ours are already four weeks ahead.Highlights the benefits and effectiveness of the internal breeding program.

Health

Health preparations before going home:
All puppies will have received their first vaccination.Puppies are microchipped.Worming is done every 2 weeks.All puppies pass a full veterinary health check.
Any health or behaviour concerns are explained in writing.A specific health guarantee is provided for all puppies.Puppies are fed a high-quality diet.

Genetic screening:
Full DNA screening is conducted on all breeding parents.Screening covers all relevant, testable genetic diseases in the breed.This ensures that puppies are not affected by these conditions.

Common health considerations for Golden Retrievers:

Hip dysplasia:
Inherited deformation of the hip joint causing pain and arthritis.Symptoms: lameness, stiffness, reluctance to run or jump.

Elbow dysplasia:
Improper formation of elbow bones, leading to painful forelimb movement.

Cancer:
Higher risk than other breeds.Most common types: hemangiosarcoma and lymphoma.

Eye issues:
Conditions such as cataracts, juvenile cataracts, and progressive retinal atrophy.

Skin problems:
Includes irritation, allergies, and ear infections.

Heart disease:
Examples: subvalvular aortic stenosis (narrowing of the heart valve).Symptoms: coughing, difficulty breathing, weakness.

Bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus):
Life-threatening disorder caused by abnormal stomach twisting.

Hypothyroidism:
Endocrine disease from underactive thyroid glands.

Breeding precautions:
Both parents are carefully screened for these conditions before mating.Ensures the offspring are not affected by these health issues.
